Real Gustavian Press Releases

AUGUST 12th -Grand Opening a huge success! Thanks for the communities Support and all my past clients for your continued support of Real Gustavian.

AUGUST 11th REAL GUSTAVIAN RETAIL STORE TO OPEN IN GREAT BARRINGTON,

Real Gustavian has a new retail enterprise that will open at 389 Stockbridge
Road in Great Barrington on August 11, 2007.

Owned and operated by Lani Sternerup of Stockbridge, Real Gustavian will
feature a changing inventory of Swedish 18th and early 19th century
antiques and decorative accessories along with contemporary Swedish
tableware, stemware, linens, fabric, and other home furnishings, along with design books and a children’s corner.

For the past three years Sternerup has operated Real Gustavian as a
home-based internet business. Her business has steadily increased during
this time and the move to retail space gives her the capability of offering
a broader range of Swedish merchandise to a wider audience while continuing
her internet services.

She states, "I find that my clients would like to see and touch merchandise in an appropriate Swedish interior setting." The white-shingled cottage with blue shutters on Stockbridge Road will fill that gap, allowing her to combine antiques with contemporary Swedish handicrafts and home goods just as Swedes do in their own homes today. “ My goal is to bring the harmony and quality associated with the traditional Swedish lifestyle to the Berkshires”.

Her inspiration comes from her time living in Sweden as a young adult. The color pallet of the shop and merchandise reflects the Swedish seasons and nature. Dominated by pale blue, whites and grays with touches of citrus yellow and celery green.

Sternerup has a wealth of credentials within the world of Swedish antiques
and products. Her familiarity with the country and its language gives her the ability to
discover unusual product resources.

Her love of Sweden and it history and culture began as a student at the
University of Lund located in Southern Sweden, from which she received a master’s degree in art and architectural history. In 2002 she joined Thomas Hayes of Lee to open Classical Excrusions, a travel business that specializes in tours of classical architecture, gardens and archeological sites in Europe and America. Their first tour was entitled “18th Century Sweden: The Golden Age of Gustavian Style”. Since then Sternerup has organized and lead five of these architectural and design tours of Sweden.

The name Gustavian refers to King Gustav III (1771-1792), who, influenced
by French and Italian design, introduced and became a patron of Swedish
neoclassical architecture and decorative arts. The refined, simple elegance of the Gustavian style has in recent years become highly popular in this country.

A year ago Sternerup completed a major collaboration on a landmark book
entitled Classical Swedish Architecture and Interiors, 1640-1850, published
by W.W. Norton.

Real Gustavian will be open from 10-5, seven days a week through Columbus Day weekend. Thereafter, it will be closed on Tuesdays.

Lani has just completed a major collaboration on a new landmark book on Swedish architecture and design entitled, Classical Swedish Architecture & Interiors by Johan Cederlund and translated and adapted by Lani Sternerup of Real Gustavian. Advance copies of the book are now available through  Real Gustavian for $45.00 per book. Please call or email to order yours today! Books are not available in book stores until late January.

Real Gustavian and company founder Lani Sternerup have received publicity in the press lately having been included in various interviews and features with leading magazines such as Art & Auction, the former Victoria Magazine, Antiques Weekly, Four Seasons magazine, American Express Travel & Leisure and Old New House, just to name a few. PRESS RELEASE CONTACT: Lani Sternerup  413-298-3399
