We
started out the season with 3 weeks
of spectacular Spring Steelhead Fishing at our Aleutian River Steelhead
Camp. We opened up camp April 20th and the fish were there in full force.
Due to a warmer than normal spring and clear, low water conditions the
fishing was exceptional. As normal, Charlie and Veteran guide
Lance Irving test fished the river for 2-3 days before our 1st group
arrived just to see what was happening . Wow ! We were
surprised at how good the fishing was.The
Brevik group fished from May Our
2nd group of fly fishermen fished May 6th-13th. Dave, Mark and
Pat continued with
We also had some great fishing in our home water within 100 yds from the camp,, as the 3 of them went out fishing every morning on there own before breakfast. Proving they had what it took to catch theses fish, lots of heart and skill. This did pay off 6 out of the 7 days with Trophy Steelhead landed, without any help from the guides. On
the best day of fishing we landed 15 steelhead between
the 3 anglers. With Pat landing 4 Metalheads from 10-13lbs in the
first hour of fishing at the same pool, on my secret Pink Leach. As
for the rest of the group everyone caught a lot of nice Steelhead.
Averaging from 10-15 lbs and some Rainbows and Dollies thrown in for good
measure. Overall we had a great Spring Season except for a couple of windy and cold days that we couldn't fish, a few of these days are expected each year in these remote areas. The fishing was above average and all the guests surpassed there expectations of the quality of fish. Although we did get blown off the river a couple of days due to high winds and dirty water. For the 2 groups of guests this spring we landed around 110 steelhead and hooked another 40-50. I
heard 2
very Profound Quotes from 2 of our
guest's that will go unnamed in
this report. The first one was :
"It
is nice to go Steelhead fishing and actually catch Steelhead".
The 2nd one was: "We
caught more Steelhead in 1 week with you here, than we have caught in the
past 10 years of Steelhead fishing"
. I
have kept my promise to myself and to our
guests with a basic philosophy of catering to small groups and offering a
true wilderness experience with the best guides and fishing anywhere in
Alaska. I dreamed a dream and
made it happen if your interested in sharing a truly wonderful Fly fishing
experience with some
We still have a few openings left for this fall at the Steelhead Camp and a few more lucky anglers will have the opportunity to fish for the last great runs of Wild Steelhead in the World. 2002 Fall Season Report Under Constructionther sigh Sincerely Charles Summerville |
